I agree with the general opinion that the key thing is asking the
/right/ questions. At least once I've saved the company time (which, as
we all know, is money) and potentially embarrassment by pursuing certain
questions.

For example, "Why do the input fields for Thing A here not correspond to
the input fields for Thing A there?" is usually a sensible question to
ask. Especially when the answer is "Oops."
