I think it's more a mix of both getting the right people into the
right roles as well as educating and supporting (long term) people to,
as Geoff stated, be responsible for their own success.

All these roles (programmer, UI designer, project manager, writer)
have their specialization and their value, but without the drive to
succeed (as well as willingness to work as a team) they won't get far.

I've seen many a project fail due to a combination of ego and lack of
knowledge. And in the end it came down to a lack of responsibility for
their own success. Part of that responsibility is to know where your
limits lie and trust in others (teamwork) to fill that void.
