Months ago, I read a rule-of-thumb for estimating documentation for software
products. It was just a guideline, a percentage of development cost. Now I
can't track it down.

My company is putting together a bid for the largest project we have ever
sold, very complex, 150 screens. We worked hard to produce a detailed
bottom-up estimate - which turned out to be way more money than anyone
expected.

We would like the rule-of-thumb as a reality check for us and also as
information for the customer.

If you have heard of such a thing, please let me know.

Thank you very much!
