Maggie may have been the one who introduced this information this list, but
it has been something that Microsoft has recommended to users since at least
WinWord 2.0. Anyone familiar with the specs of the binary .doc format knew
that the final paragraph mark was associated with document level
information, and that each section break contained, page setup and style
information for the preceding section.

IIRC, Maggie is the MS Word MVP who was the first to discover that most of
the corruptions in a Word file can be eliminated by copying everything
except the final paragraph return and pasting it into a new file.
