I don't understand this. How is this any different
from the background checks I had to go through for a
security clearance when I went into the Army? That
still go on for military personnel? I didn't hear any
uproar about those - why is this NASA thing
particularly heinous?
I would think that the point of wanting to look at
that information would be pretty obvious - NASA wants
to reevaluate its people on the basis of degree of
risk for potential blackmail or leanings toward
anti-government activity. I can understand NASA and
the JPL being concerned about such things. I am not
convinced that this new background check violates the
4th Amendment because I am not convinced that it is
unreasonable. I can understand her being concerned
that the investigators may not keep that data safe,
but that's a different issue.
Please note that I am NOT among the "you got nothing
to fear from the government if you're clean" crowd.
But with the information I have right now, I'm not
convinced that she has a leg to stand on. (Yes, I know
that's a bad sentence.)
