I will agree with you on this after one final thought:

This thread is of interest to tech writers and we
should watch for developments, because it is likely to
be of concern in career development. This seems to me
to be something that will become more and more common
in the future. Employers in all fields, not just
government, are getting more and more invasive their
background checks. Witness the fact that drug testing
used to be confined almost exclusively to jobs that
carried security ratings or where people had access to
large sums of money, whereas today it's just about
impossible to get a job worth having without a drug
test.

Are we going toward an employment environment where
we'll have to be as squeaky clean as a kid in an Andy
Rooney musical in order to get our next job?
