Sorry my posting lead to confusion, because I cited Microsoft Help wrong. The correct example is "to select the x check box" vs. "to select x". I think that the first one used by MS is a bit long, especially in German "Aktivieren Sie das Kontrollkästchen x" - here, MS uses the translation for "activate" = "aktivieren", by the way (under Vista/Word 2007) instead of "auswählen". Maybe only a localization problem?
