I think this is the same as the "Is it a FAQ (fack) or an FAQ (eff aye
cue)" arguement. It's personal preference, but if you're using it in
formal documentation, pick one way of dealing with it and stick to it.
My preference when documenting is to "spell it out", since there aren't
that many acronyms out there that are easily recognizable when pronounced
(NASA and SCUBA being notable exceptions), so I'd write "an FAQ".
When speaking informally, I'll use whichever is most comfortable for me,
making me wildly inconsistent. For example, I pronounce FAQ but spell URL.
Doesn't help, does it?
