I really want to agree with this on some level, but ultimately, if you make
such egregious errors when presenting yourself for consideration for a job,
what sort of errors will you make when the stakes are lower?

This is why I tell everyone I know to keep their résumé up to date. It never
fails that I find a job listing that I'm interested in when there is only
forty-three minutes left until the application deadline. If you try to
compose or update your résumé in that sort of time crunch, you're very
likely to end up a "technical writer"--or worse!

P.S. I should probably confess, too, that I am a compulsive proofreader ever
since the day I used OCR software to load text into a Web site for a
presitigious prep school, transforming the headmaster's ideas from the
"finest" into the "lamest." Luckily, I caught the error, but it'd been
posted for six months by the time I did.
