Well, it may or may not be applicable for you.
In this case, the SW was utterly unusable if
not connected to equipment it recognized (it
couldn't even fully launch itself because the
GUI was customized to the system
configuration it scanned on startup). Even
if you plugged the workstation into our most
direct competitor's equivalent system, drivers
specific to the other system would be needed.

Another division does sell dongle-like things, but this is the first
time that I've ever thought of our networked encryption appliances as
honkin-big dongles.
