I studied music as a postgrad after doing my degree in electronics. I
thought seriously of going pro (I play the French horn) but in the end
decided that there were far too many very good players chasing far too
few jobs. I play regularly as an amateur and thoroughly enjoy it. But
I'm glad I did the extra study. It meant I was able to make an
informed decision that music as a profession wasn't right for me.
Otherwise I might have spent my life wondering whether I could have
made it as a musician and regretting that I didn't have a go.
