TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I developed an archival system for all of the documents I access. I often surprise my students by finding even ancient work in under 30 seconds.
The description of the entire process is pretty long, so I will defer boring the whole group. Contact me privately if you are interested.

Subject: Urgent ! Help required on organizing documents
Dear writers,
At my work, I need to create naming convention for all the files and folders. Besides, I also need to organize document repository, which has thousands of documents, to make all the documents easily accessible. As there had been no naming convention for everyone to follow led to this chaos. Now the challenge is to define the right directory structure for all the files/ folders, and also include all the documents that are being added regularly.
I would really appreciate if anybody can suggest me the standard and proven method to organize documents with the correct folder structure and suggest me books on naming convention?
