Is the agency aware that you applied for this
position?  In most W2 contracts, if the client
company hires the temp direct in any capacity 
it is obligated to pay the agency a commission, 
so you should have advised them of what you 
were doing.  If you did, then you should tell
them what the current manager is saying to
you before they hear it from the company,  
they may be able to start shopping you to
other clients in case you end up needing a
new assignment; if you didn't, you may have 
burned a bridge with this agency as well as 
with the client company.
