To be honest, I think that Bonnie has hit the nail on the head. I
didn't feel comfortable with either of your alternatives and she's
incisively identified why.

Surely somewhere in your documentation or elsewhere there is a
specification for the computers that are to be used in this
application. That will (or should) state the need to be networked in
addition to "the requirements". So all you need write is that you can
run ingest jobs from any computer that meets the system requirements
given on page xxx, or whatever.
