It's always a huge help to know of sources for free ware, ESPECIALLY
when people have used it before. Thanks a lot Edgar!

I finally located the Windows maintenance programs, which I used to
check and clean up the computer. It might not be as good as CCleaner,
but being just a couple of steps above a novice in knowledge about OS
etc.,  I'll just suffer  along with MS utilities. At least until I
become better informed. I left the registry alone when I used it.

An FYI to anyone who's at about the same user level: The Vista system
is organized differently than any previous version. Although you might
have heard that the programs such as Word are different already,
finding your system resources takes quite a bit of hunting. When you
change to Vista, take some time to explore it. And I'd highly advise
indexing your computer. I know that others have advised that this is a
resource heavy option, but it's the only way I managed to find
anything through Explorer. I much preferred the old type of
organization, because it was more transparent.

Today I invest in more RAM!
