Many years ago, at the introduction of stand-alone word processing equipmentthe beginning of my career, I worked for a man for whom good enough wasn't--it had to be perfect. It made no difference that he was always very late bring the finished material to me. Or that it took X hours to type the information into the WP equipment which I had to teach myself--he wouldn't approve my going to the manufacturer's class (and he wouldn't proof read!). Also he insisted that I could reproduce the workbooks and class materials cheaper than the local print shop--this is also before high-volume copy machines.

We came to a parting of the ways the morning after I had stayed at the office until 4 am to get the books reproduced so he could get on a plane to the client site at 4 pm the following afternoon. He found a spec on pages introduced by a spec on the glass of the copy machine. It wasn't perfect, so it had to be redone.

I quit.
