Um, mebbe not...
Just last week, Sandy sent me a notice (off-list) that the India branch
of my own company was looking to hire a writer. I hadn't been aware (it
wasn't on the company intranet a couple of weeks earlier when I'd
browsed).
What I _am_ aware of is:
The company revolves around its hub in the USofA (I'm in the Canada
office, by the way), so many of the people in the India office work
evenings, or work very long days.
There's even a shuttle provided in case they are required back at the
office when they'd otherwise be in bed. The main reason for this is
that most of the management happens on Eastern Standard Time. That
includes important meetings and conference calls. Since being acquired
into this company, I've had exactly one late-night conference call.
Other than that one time, it's all been daytime (for me) meetings with
game-but-tired voices on the other end of the phone, talking to us in
the wee hours, their (India) time.
Meanwhile, they get paid lots less than we do. Granted, costs are
generally lower there. However...
My former boss, now a "Program Manager" for the company, is off to the
India offices for the fourth time. She loves the people, but was driven
to return home a few days early last time by the smog. This time, she'll
be hitting the monsoon season. Woohoo :-)
Be careful what you wish for.

needs to get the driveway-marker stakes pounded into the ground before
the ground freezes)
