However, you would give directions that use roads to which the driver
has access. For example, you wouldn't tell a civilian to drive through
a restricted military area. In the same way you should (IMO) tell
customers to use something you know they have. Since not all computers
have floppy drives, CD burners, etc. and not all customers will have a
spare thumb drive to hand, it's perhaps better to use a term that
encompasses all options while giving the customer the choice of which
to use. For example, "Copy the configuration file to removable media
and write protect this if possible. Keep this safe for future
reference."
