I suggest you focus on why the tool you want to use is a better tool
than Word rather then on Word's shortcomings.
You simply have to demonstrate that the new tool will save time, and
therefore, company dollars. And/or that the tool is necessary to create
the quality of documentation required to match the quality of the
product you are documenting. This could be a matter of facilitating a
more sophisticated look or, again, saving you time, so that you can
spend more time documenting things more comprehensively and/or testing
what you've written for comprehensiveness. In short, management is
ultimately concerned only with ROI.
