Well, I'm pretty much a dinosaur myself, and my knowledge of Twitter is
severely limited. But I can't visualize what it is you're expecting from
such a "technology upgrade." 

IIRC, the size limit for tweets is a bit lower than the 160 characters
for SMS messages. So if all Techwr-l posts automagically made their way
to Twitter, you'd be able to read what -- the subject, maybe the name
and email address of the person being quoted? Then click a link to the
whole thing? 

<shrug />Doesn't sound like a better way to lurk to me. 

Now, a useful technology upgrade might be RSS feeds -- one for full
posts, one for summaries only (at least with RSS, you get a
250-character summary). I suspect a number of people would prefer
following the list in their feed aggregator instead of via email. 

IMNSHO, YMMV, etc.
