There's a note about this on p. 375 of the User's Guide, immediately
following the "sufficient path" explanation:
"DANGER: The Reflected Temperature panel is the only safe indicator of
steam tunnel temperature. Do NOT wave your hand in the steam tunnel,
regardless of how long the target takes to respond."
This note was upgraded from "Caution" to "Danger" in the latest rev. of
the manual, as recommended by the ISO auditor and approved by Legal.
