RE: Need tips on Quick Start Guides

When we were developing quick start guides for my last company, we took
a field trip to see our product in use. During the same trip, we spent
time in a technical bookstore, looking at various quick reference cards
in similar or related fields. We were writing for medical information
purposes, so we looked at QRCs from the medical world -- including those
little anatomical charts and the like, which were far from our topic but
still had useful lessons to offer. We also collected quick start guides
that we liked. 

>From this, we amassed a library of ideas, from size and shape to
binding, paper type, font and layout, and how to approach topics.
