Training Manuals

Hi 
I am tasked with rewriting a training manual, which I have not done for about 10 years. Wha are the key players in training manual "theory" - I know Malcolm Knowles is a key player in that "field" - adult education etc. Can anyone else provide me with some names of key players, or some good links to help me along?
