How "earlier" is the Illustrator? If it's v7 or newer, try changing the
extension of the CDR file to PS and opening it with the EPS import.
This won't work for CDRs from the most recent couple of Corel releases,
and even if it does import the file, all the Corel-specific data, such
as layers, will be lost.
