I have a manual that is separated by chapter into three different Word documents. The headings are all numbered in outline style. The .dot template for the manual uses the default of "1" in the numbered headings (1.0, 1.1, 1.1.1).
For chapter 2, I changed the heading 1 style to start with "2" and it changed all three heading levels automatically; I purposely did not save this number change to the template. I was thinking that the change would override the template style for the heading style but I guess I'm wrong. Every time I close and reopen the chapter 2 document, it reverts the number to start at 1.0 instead of 2.0. How can I make it stay permanently?

BTW, the "Automatically Update" checkbox for the style is unchecked in the template. Other than that I'm out of ideas...

Thanks!
