I was doing a multimedia CD-ROM about a decade ago. The machine we used for
rendering video was an old spare PC (perhaps a 486?). We'd start the render
(the videos were 3-5 minutes in length) when we left for the night, and on a
good day, they'd be done in the morning when we got back into the office.

You are actually running pretty fast for that kind of render time.

I have a quad core processor with 4GB of RAM now. I can render 30 minutes of
video in something like 15-20 minutes now.
