Forgive me if I cover very elementary points you already know...I will
assume little or no experience with this process.

Unfortunately, I have no experience with FineReader. Historically, it
was noted for working well with a variety of languages, including
non-Western ones. I have used OmniPage, and it is excellent in
conversion of printed text.

You will probably do best by conversion to plain text, then importing
that to Frame for formatting and such. I believe OmniPage can do a
creditable job in creating a Word document while preserving many of
the formats--but that is problematical with Frame, as you know.
Ultimately, it would most likely be cleaner to go from straight text.

It would be a good idea, I think, to experiment a little with your
input docs to determine the optimal resolution for the scan to convert
with precision. Since input docs vary considerably in quality, that
may be very helpful in reducing any proofreading needed.

Obviously, too, if you scan from loose pages rather than a bound
document, your results will be far better.
