I did leave something out: I do not use Bluehost for my domains and
renewals; I use WSMDomains.com, who calls me--on the phone--if I have a
domain expiring to be sure I don't let one go that I really want! I own
about 250 domains, so it's important to me to have good customer service in
that area, and WSMdomains is great--I've used them for over 10 years. I've
been with Bluehost for a year and am fine with them, but I understand others
may have different experiences.

One of my "other" requirements for a hosting company is that they don't host
sites that promote hacking, maleware, cracking, porn, child porn, or other
activities like that. Some hosting companies do (godaddy used to be really
bad about that, not sure about now), but I don't do business with them. Read
the terms of service for the hosting company if you care about what *else*
your hosting company is willing to host.
