Add me to the list of naysayers against "SEO". There are all kinds of
"tricks" to optimize SE results, but the core of a well-indexed site
boils down to three main areas:

- Content
- Structure
- Markup that validates

Aside from that, there is really nothing to SEO. The right content,
with the right markup, structured so that it's machine-readable,
guarantees correct indexing. The challenge after that is acquiring
enough backlinks, or people linking to your site, to drive up the
interest rank, and updating the content regularly, to increase your
currency

Oh, there is one more tip, having the dot com domain name of the
keyword you want to index really helps.

However, a far more mathematical science is the measurement of such SE
hits, Web Analytics. Web analytics requires you to define your website
targets, figure out your present situation, and work out a measurable
strategy to get there.

I risk sharing all my trade secrets by telling you this: but I
recommend a book I'm only part way through: Web Analytics: An Hour a
Day. http://www.webanalyticshour.com/ -- funny, after watching the
video on this website, I learned that I could have gotten all the
information for free from the blog Occam's Razor
<http://www.kaushik.net/avinash/>

And all the money raised through sales of the book goes to the
charities The Smile Train and Doctors without Borders.

Cheers,
