Fox News's high ratings come from the talk shows hosted by Glenn Beck,
Bill O’Reilly, and Sean Hannity.

Calling them biased would be missing the point. Of course they
are--partisan politics are central to that preaching-to-the-choir
brand of entertainment. The same goes for Arianna Huffington and Amy
Goodman on the left, and Lou Dobbs wherever he is.

I know that some of their fans confuse those shows with journalism,
but that says less about the state of American journalism than about
the failure of our schools to teach basics such as how to distinguish
fact from opinion.

The New York Times gave up on charging $50 (?) a year for online
access after they figured out that they could make more money giving
it away and selling ads on nytimes.com. They do have an
offline-readable version for $3.45 a week, and charge $40 a year for
online access to crosswords.
