Sure enough. When I updated the Multilevel list styles and assigned them to
my Heading styles, my problem went away.

Tracy's friend may want to check the formatting of the styles that don't get
numbered as PDF bookmarks. Assuming the use of Word 2007, this feature has
been buggy, but at least fixable. I never found this feature in Word 2003,
but styles and indentation went corrupt all the time.

To open the Multilevel list gallery, click the third numbering button in the
Ribbon under the Home tab. There buttons are labeled in order on the default
toolbar. Bullets, Numbering, and Multilevel lists

The only way to modify the outline numbering style is to choose Define New
Multilevel List in the bottom menu. Clicking a style in the List library
applies that numbering style to the currently selected paragraph.

I haven' t found that adding new list styles to the list library reduced the
problems I was having with numbering. I guess I'm just anal as I continue to
clean up my library when I update a Multilevel list.

Hope this helps.
