In a nod to  the lady on this list who had a lot to do with it, I
always vastly preferred the Sun guide to the Microsoft one.

The Apple guide is also excellent about UI stuff. (I no longer have
the link to the Apple UI interface guide, but I think it must still be
out there--although it is aimed more at developers working on Mac
applications if memory serves).
