Hello, TechWR-L-ers,

Iâm looking for examples of iPhone 4 apps that youâve seen that demonstrate effective âHelpâ.

And by âHelpâ I do NOT mean a desktop-style Help system, or link to a Web page of FAQs (whether integrated in the app or hosted), or the like.

(I know that apps are supposed to be intuitive enough to not require Help. But the Help Iâm looking to provide is not how to use the app, but explaining domain knowledge so that people can make the right Security Settings choices, for example: things such as why/when to select one encryption mode over another.)

Of course free apps are nice, but really Iâm interested in paid apps on the (perhaps erroneous) assumption that if an app costs money, developers have taken more time/care to include proper and/or innovative âHelpâ.

Iâm looking for techniques that are appropriate for the iPhone 4 in particular, and mobile devices in general; things such as:

* First-use splash screens w/brief essential help info. (And, just what are these âfirst-use splash screens calledâ, which in the PC world usually have a checkbox that you can clear to âShow Tips on Startupâ"?)

* Good âembedded helpâ â explanatory text next to controls.

* Question mark icons next to controls, which when tapped display a popup of help.

* Overlays of screenshots with hotspots that when tapped display popup help.

* Animated screens/videos of task sequences.

* Etc.

TIA,
-Monique
