Questions on BuddyPress & Theme Design

Hi everyone,

Does anyone here have any experience with BuddyPress and Theming within WordPress?  I have some questions on the development of custom code for it, as well as, thoughts on good ways to do design since these two are owned by the same company but don't necessarily play well together.
