Most of those tests are not intended to be completed by the subjects. How far you get is one of the parameters that is evaluated. Younger people may tend to be quicker because the classes and the test-taking mindset is still fresh in their experience, but older workers who are actually doing the type of work that's being tested for usually do ok as well. The whole idea is to sort out people who haven't got the stuff current in their heads.

I had to take a test for a company recently. Part of it included math and spatial relationships. I timed out on several of the sections. Let's face it, younger people are faster that older in many things like this, and so they cut older people while remaining "undiscriminating".
