Did you run any searches for various laws before you hit <ctrl-z>?

An odd Excel undo issue is here:

My guess is that your error is related to Microsoft's insistence on being "helpful" by providing various functions that work with undo and clipboard data history.

Check or fiddle with your undo settings in the registry and your clipboard data storage settings.
