Most authoring tools will export some sort of formatted output (RTF, MIF, etc.). iAuthor gives you plain text only. It's the equivalent of Acrobat. A specialized formatting tool that would be a PITA to try to repurpose content out of.

Why not? Apple's EULA for iBook Author doesn't cover the content, just the formatting created via its software. The content remains yours, but if you want to transfer it to another platform you'll have to extract it and re-format using QXP 9 or some other e-book creator. Either way, if you want to sell your content via iBooks and any other platform, you'll have to either re-format from some other platform for iBooks, or re-format from iBooks to the other platform.

Six of one and half a dozen of the other, isn't it?
