I would go with the more straightforward "xyz parameter," too.

If only one parameter is being discussed, I'd agree with Bob's suggestion about the comma in the other form. If there's an xyz parameter, I'm guessing it's being contrasted with another parameter.) Much depends on context, as always.

correct, "The parameter, xyz, blah blah blah......." If you did it that
