A solution might be found by focusing on when and why the user needs to do
the maintenance tasks, rather than on naming the list. Here are a few
ideas along those lines.
If you're using task-oriented headings elsewhere in the document, why not
task-oriented language here? For example, how about "Caring for the
Whatzit"?
If the tasks need to be performed on a set schedule (such as daily),
consider "daily tasks."
If the tasks are triggered by some other event or circumstance, or if the
tasks prevent specific undesirable outcomes, present the maintenance tasks
as a solution: "If fibers are not placed correctly," "Keeping the Whatzit
from making unpleasant noises," or "What you need to do to keep the Whatzit
working at its best."
