I am in general terrible at lying. Even when it's for a good cause ("no,
that dress doesn't make you look fat"), nobody ever believes me when I lie,
so I just don't.

I would simply say that I have personal or family business that may require
me to take a few hours off on short notice occaisionally over the next few
months. This is the truth, because looking for a new job is very personal
and affects your entire family, even if you are just a family of one. Most
of the time, your employer would really rather not know what your personal
or family business is, so long as it is not interfering with your ability
to get your job done.
