The (test) objects are often referred to as "mocks". "Mock it" means to use a mocking (software) framework to assist with the testing process.

So what we seem to have is a particular "technical" use of a word. Some technical terms are arbitrary, punning, or deliberately obscure, and a few are indeed unfortunate, leaping from the page, begging for correction. But if we "correct" them we are wrong. Think, for example, of quefrency analysis, with its words cepstrum and liftering.
