I have never been a chicken in a Scrum project.  In fact, I would probably tell them to look for another writer if that was how they wanted to play it.  Another point...  Because a project is largely an exercise in information management, there's *much* a writer can do aside from producing pages.  So there's no excuse for a writer not contributing fully to the sprint...  Except management confusion...
