TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
You absolutely have to get into the scrums, especially as lone writer! Otherwise you won't hear those discussions that lead to doc changes, because the devs and managers don't always realize what changes affect docs. You're always listening for those items. You may not be able to make every scrum for every team (though that's ideal), but sometimes just being in the room reminds everyone that new stuff needs to be documented.
You also need to be involved in design reviews, for the same reasons. Here's where you can impact usability, as well as being ahead of the game in knowing what is supposed to happen when the user clicks X.
Many here can help you make that case, if you need more arguments.

Sadly, this hasn't yet been defined. As a matter of fact, it looks like it's going to take some arguing just to get me into scrum meetings.

Are you going to be using an agile-oriented tool such as Rally or JIRA?
Are you going to use a defined, formal process such as Scrum for planning sprints?
