Here's a comment I posted at the article's site. Since I'm not yet a tech
writer, I'd really love to get comments about what I wrote. Thanks.
[1] If the point is not to be ready to use different technologies to do
your job, then that's true for almost everything.
[2] You spend a lot of time criticizing DITA. I don't know it (I haven't
actually started working as a tech writer), but it seems that one spends a
lot of time at the beginning so that it's easier to change later, and/or to
generate versions of the documentation in different formats. That can
still be a valid trade-off, no? That's one of the things they're teaching
in my tech writing course.
[3] Users still need help documentation of some sort, and there will still
be work for people who know how to write it well, no? Not all subject
matter experts can do that.
