Re: "Technical Writing ? Is It A Worthy Role?"
Is anyone else surprised at the amount of articles that are written about technical writing by people who are not technical writers? Are all the tech writers writing articles about how great software development is as a career choice?
Many "how to make money" articles in books, magazines and websites suggest it is possible to become slightly rich by writing "how to" articles for books, magazines and websites. I was reading an article about building wire fences in a (hard copy) farm magazine yesterday, and it was explaining how the tensioning device puts pressure on the fence wire. The whole article was apparently using "pushing on a string" as the physical basis for building fences.
So should we even be bothered that some of the articles about "how to do tech writing" are themselves examples of bad tech writing?
