The Antikythera Mechanism of about 200 BC
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antikythera_mechanism
apparently had an instruction plate, most of which was not recovered.

Also, Xenophon, 430-354 BC, wrote an extensive treatise on horsemanship, usually referred to as "On Horsemanship," which has many explicit instruction on the selection, care and training of horses, much of which still applies today.

As for the 1908 book, I especially enjoyed the section on hyphens.

The earliest known technical document that follows a structure we would recognize today. Provides a theory of operation, functional description and step-by-step instructions for use.
