I thought MindTouch worked fine. It's quite similar to Confluence in
many ways. I'm sad the free version has been discontinued.

For SME reviews, I don't think MindTouch has an equivalent of
Confluence 5.7's inline comments, which show who posted them and allow
others to reply. That's a new feature but it duplicates what the Talk
plugin did for earlier releases.

I'm not sure what you mean by global character style. Customization
via CSS is pretty open-ended, personally I stick with the defaults as
much as possible.

The source is XHTML, you can do numbered steps easily. I can't
remember how good it was a nexting bulleted lists or code listings
within numbered lists.

Search is excellent.

Biggest pro over Confluence is the pricing model where customers who
have only read and comment permission don't require licenses. Biggest
con is that it's hosted only.
