I ran into this where the idea was to make all the books look identical on the outside, including color and cover illustration, and even subordinating the actual title to micro-type:

HUMUNGUOUS-LOOKING COMPUTER COMPANY INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR widgit 1
HUMUNGUOUS-LOOKING COMPUTER COMPANY INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR bidgit 2
HUMUNGUOUS-LOOKING COMPUTER COMPANY INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR fidgit 3

Made the brand stand out, but didn't help when you were looking to find the one you needed.

Now with PDF it's possibly easier.
