Monique Semp asked about recent changes in the LinkedIn job listing emails she subscribes to:
Until ârecentlyâ ..., the LinkedIn email message that listed the companies who âare looking for candidates like youâ always contained relevant and appropriate technical writing jobs. But then all of a sudden there were hardly any tech writing jobs in the list, and LinkedIn decided I wanted to âmove upâ to be a CTO, a QA Director, a Lead Engineer, a Program Manager, etc.
In the last couple of weeks the mix has gotten betterânow maybe 70% of the jobs are again tech writing jobs. But thatâs still a far cry from âbeforeâ, where 99% of the jobs were a fit for my profile....
So Iâm wondering if other people have experienced this change in what LinkedIn is sending for jobs, and whether there are any settings or tweaks that can be made to customize what LinkedIn sends?

I also get the LinkedIn job alert emails, and similar alerts from several other job boards. Job lists that I trusted for years, like Indeed.com and others, now seem to be competing with each other and operating on the idea that they have to send you a dozen or more options every day, regardless of whether or not they conform to your job alert requests. I guess there are ridiculous fads among job boards, too.
LinkedIn at least keeps to "professional" level posts,, unlike others that include automotive service writers, and various varieties of health care billing and insurance documentation review positions. The Ladders job alerts do not seem to know what a technical writer does, and include a wild variety of things. CareerBuilder is the only job board that only sends one or two job posts, if there are not any more new positions than that.
I think we'd all prefer fewer job listings on all the alerts if the ones we do receive are at least relevant to technical writing. I've tried editing my job alerts on several sites without affecting what was subsequently sent to me. I've unsubscribed from some lists because they mostly sent me irrelevant options, or were acquired by a competing board, and then the same openings were duplicated on both alerts.
