Acknowledged that .chm has been improved upon in many ways. No argument. It's too old and out of date to be of much practical use today.

But not everything has been improved upon, that I have seen. I haven't seen anything faster than the compiled binary search inside a .chm. I'm thinking of Flare webhelp output with self-contained search, or any other "webhelp" - they are slower in my experience. Suitehelp search was pretty good but not quite as fast as chm. And general search on a website seems much slower. Have you found something with really fast search?
